Chetek Mound

     
Not much is known about this mound, and I've come across the information about this earthwork incidentally. I was surprised to find
the mound, located at the site of KwikTrip gas station and convenience store at 324 2nd St., well preserved and taken care of.
Surrounded by a solid fence and well-marked, my only objection would be against mowing the mound. Barron county was home
to almost 250 mounds in the past - more than any other place up north. Interestingly, many of them are attributed to Sioux or Ojibwa
- both historic tribes - rather than prehistoric woodland people known as Mound Builders. In fact, the plaque at the mound clearly
